Standing SOMBO/JUDO Throws
Throws from standing are called Tachi techniques in JUDO. While
traditional wrestling takedowns normally score low in SOMBO,
primarily due to the attacker following his opponent to the mat,
a number of high scoring throws common to JUDO wrestling are
directly applicable to SOMBO throwing techniques.
The following throws represent basic core JUDO techniques. Since
each involves gripping the jacket, they have no direct wrestling
counterpart. The JUDO name for each throw in included in
parenthesis. It is important to point out that a sacrifice throw
with the opponent being thrown to his back is not scored the same
as when the attacker falling down during a throw.
